The Blackwell Legacy + Sam & Max Ep3:

The Blackwell Legacy is a retro looking adventure game released online. There is a plan to make a series of mystery games following from this one. I bought a copy, of course, and while the backstory has potential to be great, the game really didn't go down any of the awesome paths I thought it would. Perhaps in the future. The game is not bad at all though, it really does feel like a professional adventure game time warped from the 1990's and has all the charm of the CD-Era Sierra games. The story is scared to be as dark as it really is, which is too bad, because in a lot of ways it reminds me of Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers. This, you should know, is no small compliment, GK1 is one of those games that keep me up at nights, overwhelmed by it's enduring quality. Anyway, I finished it today and recommend it to everyone, even at $15. It is a lot to ask for what is basically an afternoon's entertainment, but it is also the most fun "Episode" game I have played so far.

Speaking of that, I also finished Sam & Max Ep. 3 today. The games are finally hinting at some overall story, which I hope is the whole focus of 5 and 6, with 4 as the transition, because otherwise I am going to be a bit disappointed at the depth of this first series. They did get the game out though, no other company as been able to keep a schedule like TellTale. Stupid Valve. Now that I have played 3 episodes the fact that someone is making me new Sam & Max is over and I am seeing how the new incarnation differs from that of yore. The big issue I have, (other than the voice of Sam, which might be because I have played the old game so many times) is that the world of Sam & Max has been cleaned up so much. The first episode I was ok with the world, there were 3 areas. Surely as we moved into the great world there would be seedy carnivals with human freaks, mad robot scientist that have their heads ripped off, or a tunnel of love where you ride on a bandaged swan's back. So far the stories are out there and insane but also very clean, barren affairs. This is one of the big problems with 3d I think. The worlds have to look simple to keep that cartoon look to them, but that gives things a clean, everything just got bleached look. I just looked for screenshots to compare, but I can't find any good ones and I am the only one that cares, so I'll refrain from loading the games up and writing a paper on this. I am suprised you read this far into my babble.

A MILLON Penguins!!! BOGGLES THIS MIND - The weight of them alone would cause extreme flooding and accelerations of global warming as they sank Antarctica

ah yes but alt dreams is my homepage and so while I eat my morning peaches and cereal babble is good to read. I am pleased not only that people are putting sam and max out episodically but that people are buying it.
