Demo Recording In Alice

New:Here is the folder I'll upload any demos I get for now. The only one currently in there is the one I recored while testing things out and its not very good. By the way, I wouldn't watch it if you haven't beat the game yet;).

If any of you out there have tried to record a demo useing the demo command and found that it does not work, I have a solution. Heres how:

  1. First you must start the game and get in a level.
  2. Now open your console and type "g_syncronousclients 1" this make this var active.
  3. I assigned record to a key using the bind command (ex: "bind f9 record") to make it easier. I did the same things with stoprecord. This step is not needed if you want to type the commands in by hand.
  4. Once you have envoked the record command, by using a hotkey or typing it in, the game will record all the action in the game until you tell it to stop.
  5. To stop it hit your stoprecord key or type "stoprecord" into the console.
  6. Now you have a saved demo. The demo is in your Alice base folder under demos. The names demos demoXXXX.dm3, so your first demo will be demo0000.dm3, your next demo0001.dm3 and so on.
  7. Type timedemo 1 (this just helps.
  8. Exit to the menu and type demo [demoname] (here you demo name will be demo0000)
  9. If your game sits and read the hard drive then stays at the menu type "togglemenu main" this gets ride of the main menu. Now you can see the demo. Before the menu always stayed in your way. I have to do this on my PII but not my K7. I don't know why.

I hope that this allows everyone to record demos in the game. As soon as you get a good demo you want to share, I am going to be creating a page here where I'll post any demos you want to share. If you are having any problems recording just mail me at superseth@altereddreams.net and I'll try and help you out.
